# # Ship Me To Indonesia Scam It is admittedly difficult to scam as a buyer. There are very few ways for a buyer to be able to pull off a scam and not get caught. Some basic, common sense can help you avoid these scammers. * Affects: Sellers * Scammer bids on and wins your auction. * The scammer offers to pay you by credit card. He will not be able to use PayPal or any other form of EBAY approved method. * In some cases the buyer will use PayPal. For his scam, it does not really matter. * The seller pays for the item through a third party CC site he most likely recommended. * You ship the item. * Several weeks later you get a notice from the third party CC company (PayPal, for example) that they are taking the money back; that the credit card used was stolen. * You can find no trace of the scammer. * You are out the money and your item. * Why This Scam Works: People assume (there's that word) that there is no way a buyer can scam a seller. * There is no way to check if the buyer is being honest or not. * Seller does not use common sense. * It takes several weeks for the CC company to catch the fraud. * The scammer is located in an otherwise third-world country where they can barely enforce local laws, much less worry about rich Americans getting ripped off. * The way the laws work, you, the seller, may not keep CC funds originating from a false or stolen account. RED FLAGS: * Buyer is in Indonesia. * Buyer makes all kinds of claims about how he cannot send money orders, cashier's checks, wire transfer, etc. Can only pay by credit card. * Buyer sounds overly reassuring. * Buyer is in Indonesia. * Buyer is in Indonesia. * Buyer is in Indonesia. * Did I mention the buyer is in Indonesia??? * How to Protect Yourself: DO NOT sell to people in Indonesia. * Cancel all bids from Indonesia. * Put a line in your auction stating the countries you will sell to. Thereby making your bid cancellations valid.
