Jews in Pre-War Poland ../images/Emo63.gif
My parents were born in a picturesque mid-size Polish town situated by the river Narew, just north of Warsaw. The town had a very thriving Jewish community and served as a major cultural centre for Jews from other neighbouring towns too. It also became one of the first Polish towns to be invaded by the Nazis. Unfortunately, having no scanner, I can’t currently post any personal photos. There are a number of books (in English) that had been written about Jewish life in Poland and they include photos. But, one of the best ways to become familiarized with Jewish life in pre-war Poland is to go through some of the Memorial Books. Memorial Books (in Hebrew/Yiddish) are available at the New York Public Library and can be viewed on line: http://www.nypl.org/research/chss/jws/yizkorbookonline.cfm estee
