מהו להערכתכם הסיכוי שלי להצליח לשרוד כסטודנטית בשיקגו בהתחשב בתנאים הבאים: אני אגור עם חבר בדירה שכורה כששכר הדירה הוא בסביבות ה-700$ לחודש, שכר הלימוד באוניברסיטה הוא 3000$ לסימסטר, להורי אין יכולת כספית לעזור לי כך שאצטרך לכלכל עצמי לחלוטין, אני מגיעה על ויזה סטודנט כשבידי 6000$ שהורי חסכו עבורי מאז שנולדתי. האם אצליח לממן את עצמי עם איזו עבודת מלצרות או שגם זה לא יספיק?

יש אישור עבודה?

גלי... אני מאמינה שהכל אפשרי בחיים!! השאלה הגורלית ביותר והכי חשובה פה בעצם היא אם יש לך אישור עבודה.. כי אם כן אז אין ספק שתוכלי למצוא עבודה מכניסה אני גם יכולה לתת לך שמות.. אם אין לך אז זה גם משהו שתצטרכי להחליט.. אם את רוצה לקחת את הסיכון ולעבוד במשהו לא חוקי ולסכן את האשרת לימודים הנכספת שלא כל אחד מצליח לקבל בזמנים האלה...

As a general rule, foreign students are not authorized to work while in the US. There are, however, some exceptions to this rule. On Campus Employment Two types of on campus employment are allowed without explicit INS authorization. These are On campus employment that will not displace a US resident On campus employment as part of a scholarship, fellowship, post-doctoral appointment, etc. You could do that for 20 hours a week, but it will not be a sole source of income. If your financial situation becomes sever you could apply for a special work permit as a student. For a student to obtain permission to work off campus because of an unforeseen economic necessity, INS permission must be obtained. Also, you must meet the following requirements: · There is “a severe economic hardship caused by unforeseen circumstances beyond the student’s control.” Examples include loss of financial aid or on campus employment without fault on the part of the student, a severe devaluation in the currency of their home country, substantial increases in the cost of tuition or costs of living, medical bills, and an unexpected change in the condition of the student’s source of support. There must be no suitable and available on campus employment opportunity You must have completed a full academic year of study (nine months) · You must be in good academic standing. how often does the INS approve off campus imploiment? is it a common thing? can "israel's economic situation" and its effect on my family be a sufficiant reason to apply (considering I'm after the first year of study and a good student)?
