המלצה לשלג מישהו?

ההמלצות האחרונות שמצאתי בפורום לחופשה מושלגת בויקטוריה הן בנות כמעט עשור..
למישהו יש המלצה לאיזו עיירה או אקומודיישן כדאי לנסוע באוגוסט, מרחק שעתיים בערך ממלבורן .. לא ממש לסקי, יותר לשחק עם הילדים בשלג ?

The closest place is Lake Mountain and it is very good for young children – Snow play and tobogganing.
It is possible to do it as day trip.
You can stay in Marysville which is the town in the foot of the mountain – the town was rebuilt again after Black Saturday (2009 Victorian worse bush fires) and it is very interesting to see the way the Australian Bush and people recover after such horrific fire and devastation. During the drive you also crossing the Black Spear which is a beautiful road to drive through.
You can also elect to stay or visit Hillsville at the same time and take the kids to Healesville sanctuary.
In all a very beautiful part of Victoria which is worth exploring and can be done in a day or two from Melbourne.
Warning: before travelling make sure that there is enough snow on the mountain J

Since you mentioned the weather issue, I thought I'll ask about driving -
Is is mandatory to have 4WD and ice chains etc ?
Is it weather on the day dependent or is there a rule of thumb?

Sorry for asking, we moved here from Perth .. the most you check driving north of Perth is will the heat reach 50 degrees and/or is there cyclon danger ..

No need for special car or Chains (in advance).
Most Snow resorts have hire places down below the mountain who will hire you any equipment you may need: From gloves to Ice Chains.
So you can arrive with your Family car, dressed in shorts and T shirt and in 5 minutes you can dress and look like an Eskimo.
Usually there is signs at the foot of the mountain on whether Ice Chains are required.
Lake Mountain is not very high, so in most time no Ice Chains are required

just my style : Rock up in shorts and singlet , a sip of anti-freeze and off we go

All I miss now is snow.. According to the website there isn't any yet.
