Shalom Banot, I feel as though I'm learning to walk again.
My coach consults with my orthopedic sports surgeon and the two of them cook up walking imunim to strengthen my new hip! I walk on deep sand, calf deep water, up hills, up stairs and slalom around on grass, as well as do "builds" - increasingly faster steps and increasingly longer strides. Hard work but fun. Yesterday I was up at Kibbutz Naot Mordecai, near Kiryat Shemonah, with my son and family (2 year old granddaughter the star of the day!). My training plan said, "1:15 moderate effort walk on rolling hills." I didn't want to walk in the city, so compromised on a mostly flat dirt path from Naot to Kibbutz Kfar Blum, with the attached waterfall as my goal. (Thanks Mor for the technical help!) I thought of all of you on your runs on "singalim" and in foreign sites. The calm beauty of this waterfall brought me peace and prayer. I sang to myself as I continued walking: I'm happy when I'm hiking, down the beaten path. I'm happy when I'm hiking... then couldn't remember the words, so made up: And don't need to look back. The calm peace of nature brought me to the realization, which I hope I can internalize, that I shouldn't try to regain who I was, but be satisfied with continuing towards my future, which includes my past, but doesn't need to be identical with it. As "icing on the cake," I have now improved enough to go up and down stairs independently!! I'm looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday in the Park! Susie
