COMPLETE 4-STROKE CYLINDERS for Maxi Scooters The new complete 4-stroke cylinders developed by Malossi for maxi scooters are already available for the most popular vehicles on the market. Cylinders for Aprilia Leonardo 250 and Majesty 250 have a 74 mm bore, those for Honda Foresight a 77 mm one. The bore designed for Vespa reaches 60 mm. The stroke of these cylinder kits has not been altered and results in a 290 cc piston displacement for Japanese scooters and approximately a 140 cc displacement for Vespa. Made of aluminium alloy, all cylinders are surface-treated with Nikasil to grant significant heat loss and high efficiency, as well as easier piston sliding and less material wear. Pistons are made of high silicon (12%) aluminium alloy that allows them to be coupled with smaller cylinders than standard ones. Not only are performance features enhanced and power losses reduced, but the scooter noise level is also decreased. Each piston is provided with 3 segments, namely two seals and one scraper ring, based on the same break-through technology shared by Japanese 4-stroke multicylinder engines featuring top class efficiency. The segment serving as a scraper ring is provided with two extra thin steel sheets, while the S10 cast iron sealing segments have a rectangular section and a chrome-plated surface that reduces friction-induced power losses. Malossi opted for advanced technology also for head gaskets which play a vital role for both sealing efficiency and engine performance: all gaskets are made of water jet cut steel (granting utmost cutting accuracy and preventing burrs that might affect gasket tightness over time) and are provided with ridges perfectly matching the head design, therefore ensuring total reliability and tightness. Gaskets are also coated with a special teflon-based paint enhancing their top grade finish. COMPLETE 4-STROKE CYLINDERS increase maximum power by approx. two HP. More HP available prevents the need to run the engine at full power all the time, granting significant advantages both in terms of reliability and drive comfort. Riders do not need to worry about controlling gas, as they can rely on a stronger and smoother response and a faster acceleration compared to standard configurations. CYLINDERS Materials and working process Made of high silicon primary aluminium alloy, cylinders undergo gravity die-casting, hardening and tempering; cylinder liners feature a silicon carbide coating with a galvanized nickel matrix and undergo a double diamond honing process following a cross pattern and complying with highly strict tolerances.
