Santa Monica is one of the better places to be in for a medium term stay in the LA area. You can walk to everything which in not common in LA. The 3rd street promenade is really nice to shop and stroll. The beach is amazing. Venice Beach is also within walking distance. It is also safe to walk the streets until at least 10 PM so you will have many nice places to take the kids you work with to. The weather is great. Santa Monica has sea breeze that makes it a little colder than the inside of LA. It is almost perfect weather year round. Many, many Israelis live nearby. You'll meet them - don't worry. Most of LA nightlife etc. is really close. In short - you are going to LOVE it!
