Knowledge in an Uncertain World ,
Notice that we could have begun the sequence of ‘subtractions’ from knowledge with belief first, or with truth first, and it would have made no
difference

. On this view, when it is knowledge‐level justified for you that there's a barn, whether it really is a barn or not, whether you are Gettiered or not, your justifier in each case is the same—it's there's a barn. What remains the same throughout the subtractions is that there's a barn justifies you in reacting appropriately. If so, then this ‘subtraction argument’, when generalized, supports the conclusion that what is knowledge‐level justified is warranted
enough to justify, i.e.

The subtraction argument
(S1) If you know that p then p is warranted enough to justify (i.e. KJ)
(S2) Holding fixed knowledge‐level justification while subtracting from knowledge any combination of truth, belief, and being unGettiered makes no difference to whether p is warranted enough to justify.
