Dear Doron, Recently, I've been looking behind at 2003 and what's coming up for 2004. I wanted to share our excitement with RDI supporters like yourself and also ask for your help. This year, my new year's resolution is to connect with 10,000 more people. I want to give thousands of more kids on the spectrum the chance to genuinely experience the joys of relationship you and I so easily take for granted. And I want to give these children the opportunity for a good quality of life which includes having close friends and even intimate partners. 2003 has been a breathtaking year for us in many areas and I wanted to celebrate a few of our accomplishments with you: Over 10,000 people, from over 50 countries have become subscribers to the www.rdiconnect.com website. RDI was endorsed by notables in the field of autism such as Peter Mundy, Peter Hobson, Nancy Minshew and Tony Attwood. Over 4,000 parents and professionals attended our introductory workshops. Over 100 professionals are either certified or in the process of being certified as RDI providers. We released our first RDI video, great for those not able to attend workshops in person. Our first comprehensive research study demonstrated the dramatic power of RDI to change lives. If you haven't read it already - download a copy of the paper on our website. Discussions are well under way for a national multi-site evaluation study of RDI involving several major universities. RDI has been refined and expanded to more effectively address communication, executive functions, memory and integration into activities of daily life. The non-profit Relationship Development Research Institute began operation. But we still have so much to do to get the word out and bring RDI to the thousands of children whose families still do not know about, or do not have access to this breakthrough treatment. I want to personally invite you to get involved or re-involved with RDI. Please help me spread the word about RDI to parents and professionals with an interest in the autism spectrum. Share our newsletters or brochures with them. Encourage them to check out our web site, attend our introductory workshops, or maybe even bring them along with you. Email me back with any of your connections to the media and we'll send out press packets. If you have questions about RDI yourself, I invite you to come chat with me in our new on-line chatroom. (My chat schedule is posted on the web site.) Let other parents and professionals know that I will send them our new "Introduction to RDI" Booklet (in pdf form) if they send me an email. Please join me in making 2004 the year for RDI and reaching 10,000 more people to open the doors of friendship for children on the spectrum. Thanks so much for your help, and best wishes for 2004.
