זה שם מענין לחיפושית. האם מישהו יודע מה הסיפור מאחורי השם המענין? באנגלית השם הוא Ladybug אם הבנתי נכון זה קשור לבתולה מריה. שמעתי בזמנו שגם בהודו יש לחיפושית שם עך בסיס תאולוגי. האם יש למישהו עוד פרטים?

אם כי אין בידי מקור המביר את העניין, בכל זאת נראה ברך שך השערה שפרת משה רבנו נקראה בשם זה בגלל צבע האדום שלה. וידוע שבתורה יש ציווי על פרה אדומה. ואולי זה ההקשר לשם זה.

תל במיוחד לשם ברוסית. לעומת זאת לא נראה לי שזה קשור לפרה אדומה.

החיפושית התמימה הזו קיבלה שמות דתיים. לפי ביאליק זה "בן סוסו של משה רבנו" ברוסית "סוסו של אלוקים" (כך שכנראה הפרה באה מהסוס, ותאורית הפרה האדומה נופלת) - מקור מילון אבן שושן. אגב, האם יש לך מושג מה התרגום לשם בהינדי?

המקור:

כנראה בימי הביניים, כשהחיפושית הוקדשה לבתולה מרים ונקראה "beetle of Our Lady". יתכן שמאז הכינוי החדש תורגם לשפות אחרות בצורות דומות.

אני לא יודע

זה לא מסביר את בן סוסו של אלוקים או את הכינוי ההינדי (שעדיין לא ברור לי) ביהדות בייחוד יש רתיעה מכל סממן נוצרי, אם המקור הוא נוצרי מן הסתם בעברית השם לא היה הופך להיות קשור לדת. יש לי תחושה שהחיפושית קשורה לפולחנים קדומים יותר, היו דתות שחיפושיות היו סממן דתי (מסורתי, מה עם הפרעונים והחרפושיות, יש קשר?)

Ladybeetles can control significant pest problems in gardens, orchards and on farms. To English farmers, a ladybeetle signals a good harvest while in the vineyards of France, a ladybeetle is a sign of good weather. Medieval European tradition held that ladybeetles were sent from heaven to save the crops. They were referred to as Our Lady's beetle. It was later shortened to lady's beetle, then simply ladybeetle. They have also been called God Almighty's Cow. Our Lady refers to the Christian Virgin Mary and superstition holds that to kill one will bring ill luck. The name Ladybird arises from the vernacular name for the common 7-Spot Ladybird (Coccinella 7-punctata) in Europe. Our Lady's Bird, the Lady in this case being 'The Virgin Mary' from Christian Mythology. The red base colour of the elytra is said to represent her cloak and the 7 black spots to represent the 'Virgins' 7 joys and 7 sorrows. Relating Ladybirds to the Virgin Mary is not unusual, in 1991 Dr. A.W. Exell published his book "History of the Ladybird" in which he cites 329 common names for the Ladybird from 55 countries, of which over 80 refer to the Virgin Mary and more than 50 are dedicated to God. Contrarily one Italian name is 'Galineta del Diaolo' or 'The Devils Chicken'. Other names include the Swedish Himelska nyckla or 'The Keys of Heaven' and the Cherokee 'Great Beloved Woman'. Even more impressive is the Latvian Entomologists Society’s designation of the ladybug as Latvia’s national insect! The chose the two-spot ladybug (Adalia bipunctata), the same species adopted by New Hampshire. Latvians call ladybugs marite, a synonym for the ancient Latvian goodess Mara, who embodies the power of the earth.​

כל הכבוד על ההשקעה

לפי מה שהבאת החיפושית קיבלה את שמה בגלל התועלת הרבה שיוחסה לה בחקלאות. זה בהחלט יכול להסביר את העובדה שבתרבויות שונות היא קיבלה שם של כבוד. הבאת גם מובאה לשם "פרה" מה שמסביר את השם העברי.

גם בשפות ובדתות שונות יש לשם החיפושית משמעות דתית. אותי מרתקת העובדה שמיתוסים בני אלפי שנים עדיין קיימים גם בתקופתנו. אני זוכר שכשהייתי ילד תמיד הזהירו אותנו שלא לפגוע בפרת משה-רבנו. נחמד לדעת סוף סוף מהי הסיבה מאחורי האזהרה הזו. תודה על המידע

אכן, החיפושית היתה סמל דתי...

במצרים העתיקה, ומכאן החרפושיות. אבל אין לי מושג מאיפה השם "פרת משה רבנו" לחיפושית האדומה עם הנקודות השחורות.
