ביוגרפיה שאני כתבתי על סיד. היום הגשתי:
Syd Barrett. Syd Barrett is an English composer and the purveyor of some of the most intriguing music ever written. He was member in Pink Floyd, and the main writer while he was part from them. He was one of the great promising of the psychedelic world and rock, and wrote many masterpieces such as "See Emily play" and "Arnold Lane". Roger Keith Barrett was born on January 6th, 1946 and raised in Cambridge, England. The nickname "Syd" was given to him as a youngster, while attending the city's High School, and stuck with him as he grew up. In his late teens, after his father died, he started producing paintings and music. He was an originating member of The Abdabs, the T-Sets, Sigma 6, and other music groups. He worked with people like Bob Close, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Rick Wright. After Bob Close left the group in 1966, Syd renamed the troupe "Pink Floyd" after two American bluesmen, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. The sound of the band those days was mostly because of his influence. A big percentage of the substance for the band was his, he played guitar, sung, and wrote the music and the lyrics as well. After Pink Floyd released two sets of singles: "Arnold Layne, Candy and a Currant Bun" and "See Emily Play , the Scarecrow", Syd got heavily into drugs. After the success of the singles, Syd wrote most of the album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", which released in 1967, and considered as the greatest British psychedelic album other than Sgt. Pepper's of the Beatles. Sadly, the pressures of fame, ingestion of LSD and his band mate's intransigence, all conspired to bring Syd to a nervous breakdown. He started to lose his connection with real life, and didn't function. Sometimes he didn't came to the rehearsals, sometimes he didn't came to their shows and when he did, he played music that wasn't really connected to the material, or he didn't play at all. The other members decided not to pick up Barrett because of his heavy drug addiction and unpredictability. They brought David Gilmore, a guitar player and singer which they knew already from high-school in order to put him instead of Barrett. After his seclusion he released studio albums, "Barrett" and "The Madcap Laughs", which weren't a great success and various others. Syd is now a schizophrenic, and resides sometimes with his aunt in Cambridge, sometimes in his London flat. It was reported in 1996 that Syd was lying ill in a Cambridge hospital, unable or unwilling to regulate his diabetic condition. I chose to write about Syd Barrett because as a Pink Floyd Fan I know his contribution and influence on the band and the rock world. The band itself wrote the album "Wish you were here" following their yearning and missings to him.
