Hi all, I emailed Dr. Ponseti and sent him pics of my sons clubfoot. You can check it out here in his album "Joseph K" or his website geocities.com/clubfoot97. Anyway he wrote back: Dear Mrs. Kelly: Joseph's clubfoot treatment was fairly common at the time of his birth. The photos after the osteotomy show the foot is well aligned so he probably will be able to have a fairly normal life. Unfortunately these operated feet usually become stiffer and painful in late adolescence and little can be done to relieve the symptoms. You would be wise to encourage Joseph to pursue recreational activities such as swimming which do not put pressure on his feet and to select a vocation which does not involve prolonged standing or walking. In our experience the foot abduction brace like a Denis Browne bar often prevents the foot from turning in and from relapses, but after the posteromedial release surgery these braces are not effective. I.V.Ponseti, M.D. I hope this helps some of you. My son had an tibial osteotomy last month and is getting his final cast off on Thursday and I am waiting for a reply regarding putting him in a brace of some sort. Has anyone else experienced this?? Cori mom to Joseph 7.2.97 Unilateral left club
