why wait

Thanks Skippy, Do you speak from experience about waiting to make aliyah? Our thoughts were to help our son integrate into a new culture and language before the more critical older teen/young adult years. I would like to hear of others' experiences moving with teens. The one experience we know of worked well for the child.

Aliya with high school aged student

My family is planning to make Aliya and our son is presently entering 9th grade. He would like to be on a kibbutz type Ulpan and school but my husband and I are too old to be accepted at Kibbutz. I know there is a special 16 month program for teens on their own. Can we (my husband and myself and our son) move to separate places initially and all still do Ulpan? Also, would it be better for us to wait until our son totally finishes High School?

Dear Malinny,

There is a new project in Israel that allows students who have finished 10 years of school and are 16 years old to finish high school in one year. The name of the project is GMAX College Bound and you can find it under the "GED" listing of www.gmax.co.il This program prepares students for their GED Exam, the Israeli Psychometric Exam, and the Hebrew Placement Test for the Israeli universities. College Bound is a year-program, Sundays through Thursdays, and is meant to be the "best, last year of high school." You can call us at 011-972-3-629-2520 or call me personally at 011-972-522-926-228. I hope this convinces you not to wait until he is finished with high school, but only until he finishes 10th grade. Regards, Leanna
