American to Israel

Tell me it is possible! I am a 55-year-old, educated, Jewish American (Chicago)interested in moving to Israel on a permanent basis. I want to make a difference at this point in my life and my heart tells me Israel is where I belong. I do not speak Hebrew, my finances are weak (due to a bad divorce) and my background is in marketing and public relations. I am in very good heatlh, physically fit and willing to do any kind of physical or "professional" work that would help the country. I would also volunteer for military service if a person of my age is needed. Would someone please tell me if my age and background are of value, and how HARD it will be for me to make this dream come true? My financial resources are practically nil. Is there a program that accepts people like me? Can I get subsidized or free housing and healthcare in exchange for my work? I do not need creature comforts. I am looking to make a difference and change my life. I am ready to become an Israeli citizen NOW!

Aliyah Now !!../images/Emo17.gif

Hi "Now" is a bit drastic – take your time – immigration is a major process and you need to handle it carefully. First, let me suggest that you enlist to a short tour in Israel. you can find something that is suitable for you with the help of a Shaliach. Here is the address of one in Chicago: Chicago Israel Aliyah Center 6600 Lincoln Ave., Suite 236 Lincolnwood, IL 60712 Tel: (847) 674-8861 Fax: (847) 674-8864 Email: [email protected] Second: when you make Aliyah the government helps you to by giving you "Sal Klita" – money to get by for 6 months – and help a bit with the rent, learning Hebrew, and finding a job. It is not much but it is a beginning. Also, "Nefesh Bnefesh" helps a lot with money – you can learn more about them in www.nbn.org.il The most important thing is not to rush into things, Aliyah will not be the solution to all of your problems, and you do sound like you are in a turning point in your life right now. "Savlanutt" (patience)
