Balkan fingers pinch the soul
This past Friday in Jerusalem’s Hamaabada, accordionist Uri Sharlin and mandolin player Avi Avital with Tomer Tzur on percussions gave a performance that glowed with virtuosity and sweat and the spell of folk music. I happened to be there, in my seat, in a web of sounds from the Israeli home, the journeys in the Balkan and the life in New York and in Italy (where Sharlin and Avital are based). As I was listening to these short cuts I could sometimes see in my mind people dancing, red and drunk, in the mud, and then women in puffy dresses fainting on the balcony of a concert hall. I highly recommend catching one of the duo’s next shows and seeing it for yourselves. Levontin 7 on Wednesday 1/8 @ 20:30 Milestone Club in Mivtzar Shuni on Thursday 2/8 @ 21:30
