Conversion at Progressive shul ../images/Emo35.gif
Hi there, I understand that one can make aaliya to Israel if one has converted to Judaism through a Progressive/Reform/Liberal shule. I would like to know, however, how most Israelis will regard Jews who converted to Judaism through Progressive auspices. Will most Israelis regard such a person as truly Jewish? Will most people not be very interested either way? Or will they not regard such a person as a Jew? Also, are there any benefits, etc. available to other olim that olim who converted to Judaism through a Progressive synagogue can't get? Lastly, would the government even know that someone had converted to Judaism? Do they ask for proof of Jewishness? and if so, do they ask this of everybody, or just if there is some doubt about one's Jewishness? And if one needs to provide proof, what type of proof is it that is required? I have a friend not connected to the Internet who recently converted through the Progressive community, and we are both considering making aliya.
