flying ULM in Italy
to all of you - I know the people who did a three or four days tour in Italy last year with rented Storches. Last year in June, Omni-Horizon organized another 3-days tour, , which ended up in 2-days tour because of bad weather. I was their "logistic"man here. I rented 3 planes (p-92, p-96, EuroStar and added myself with my EuroFox. The difficult part was to find SPIC pilots (security pilot in command) because no one would rent planes to a foreign pilot without a liscence recognized by the Italian national AeroClub, a goverment agency which handles all the beaurocracy regarding ULM. (liscencing pilots, registration of airplanes, schools etc) At the moment they do NOT recognize the Israeli liscnece. You can fly into Italy with a Israeli plane, but you cant`t rent a plane here! Regarding the Storch tour, they had a sort of an "international "liscence, blue color, something like the international driver`s liscence. Of all the schools in Italy, only ONE recognized this liscence, the school next to the place they manufacture the Storch. Usually, this liscence is valid only for international championships, , and it is very limited in its time validity. Those of you who would like to try, can contact that school, with details from Uri Amitai. (I personally met that group when they landed in our airfield. Also, Yuval Gonen talked to me at Omni`s during my visit there last May) Omni can supply information about that BLUE liscence. The trouble is, that the people at the national AeroClub Italy in Rome are assholes, they either don`t answer your questions by phone (they hardly answer the phone)and the time required for a written answer to a letter is anything between 3 to 6 months. typical Italian.
