Health coverage for retirees
This question is directed primarily to any retired NYC teachers or other employees in the TRS retirement system My wife and I are coming on aliyah this August IY"H. She is retiring from the NYC Board of ED, and we are looking for advice as to the wisdom of taking the optional health benefits rider (which includes the Basic Plan and the Prescription Drug Rider) which will soon cost about $200 per month. Are most drugs covered by Kupat Cholim? Is there any problem submitting Israeli receipts in shekels and getting reimbursed? Apparently the SHIP coverage is only available if you take the optional health benefits rider UNLESS you can prove you have equivalent coverage from another source. Does anyone know if kupat cholim would qualify as "equivalent coverage"? Any info or comments or advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Arthur and Sora Goodman
