I saw Cold Mountain!!!!

Hope you're not sick of me yet... ha ha YES, it is THAT good. Very impressive, beautiful story. Jude, Nicole and Renee all deliver FANTASTIC performances. The only things that take away (a bit) from the film are the not so stellar performances from Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman and other minor characters and the very violent moments that I wasn't even able to watch at some parts. Nicole is brilliant as always but I must say I was extremely surprised by Renee Zellweger (who I usually really dislike) - she gave a really good pace to the film and a big part about is the fact that her character is very sympathic and FUNNY! It's a great relief when you're watching such a heavy drama. The movie is 2:40 hrs!!! My friends and I were SHOCKED because we couldn't possibly imagine that it took so long. It really has an excellent pace for an epic. If there's anything else you want to know - let me know

איזה כיף לך!! אני ממש רוצה לראות את הסרט הזה, ובזכות הביקורת שלך אני רוצה עוד יותר לראות אותו! חחח לגבי רנה- היה רשום ב"עכבר העיר" שהיא אחת משחקניות הקומדיה המעצבנות ביותר היום... בשיקגו לא מתתי עליה, אבל בברידג'ט ג'ונס היא הייתה ממש חמודה לפי דעתי! ולפי מה שאת כתבת זה נשמע שהיא גם חמודה שם! נטלי פורטמן עד כדי כך גרועה?? היא דווקא אחת מהשחקניות המועדפות עלי (ועל שם הדמות שלה הניק שלי...). מה היה כל כך רע בה? היא שחקנית ממש חמודה בדרך כלל! וניקול- נו, לגביה אין לי שמץ של ספק שהיא הייתה נהדרת. אז תדווחי עוד...

אני מבינה שלסרט הזה יש פוטנציאל עצום להיות אחד הכוכבים במעומדויות לאוסקר בשנה הבאה... מה את אומרת? מי ראוי למה?

Yes I'm having a lot of fun! And no I don't get sick of it.. ha ha I only have about 2 more weeks to stay here (( As for Renee Zellweger - up until "Cold Mountain", I really couldn't stand her. Shira - I can't agree with you more, she has these weird face movements that piss me off. She has some of those in CM as well but I tried not to pay attention to it. The reason I didn't like Natalie Portman is because her scene was too out there. It was another obstacle in Inman's journey but it was one of a very few scenes that made the movie drag a little. The movie was at a really great pace most of the time and didn't feel as long as it was, much of it thanks to Renee's character. Regarding Nicole's performance; Usually when you see a movie, specifically if it's a drama - there are certain scenes that you think of as impressive or well acted. In dramas - lets face it, it mostly involves emotions; some sort of a breakdown, sadness, anger, tears. Half the time it's overacted. For example, after I first saw "The Hours" - I couldn't stop thinking about how the train scene scene was one of the best acted scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Well.... don't expect any of that in "Cold Mountain". There's no woeful monologue, no self pittiness or an emotional outburst. What makes Nicole so good as Ada Monroe is how believable she is AS Ada Monroe. She brought so much life into the character as well as 'hidden' or should I say 'held in' emotions so perfectly at certain scenes because that was Ada! Sure, she could have had those crowd pleaser emotional outbursts but I'm saluting the director and Nicole for staying true to Ada's character. The transition her character goes through in the film is fascinating even at its low points thanks to Nicole's captivating performance. My favorite scenes in the movie had to be those that showed the relationship and friendship between Ruby & Ada. They're both such wonderful and sympathic characters despite the contrast between them, and their teaming up is a completion of each other. I think Nicole has a fair chance for an Oscar nomination this year, but I don't think she will win for several reasons; 1- She won last year and like Akilis said, a lot of people thought it was controversial and sort of a make up win for 2001. I doubt they will give it to her twice in a row. 2 - There are SO many talked about performances by females this year that it's just going to be an incredibly hard competition and I think the academy would like to give the award to someone who hasn't won before (Meg Ryan, Naomi Watts, Cate Blanchett) plus there is competition from those who have previously won (Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Connely). I'm pretty sure the film will get a lot of nominations. Best picture, director, actor, actress, supporting actress, screenplay, score, editing... and hopefully it will do better than "The Hours". Although if you give me last year's scenario, I'll take it. I really really doubt that Nicole will get two wins in a row. Unless the movie is HUGE and the other contenders will fail to impress in their movies, I just don't see it happening. P.S 1 - VELMA KELLY RULES!!!!! (Catherine Zeta Jones aws amazing in Chicago) P.S 2 - I don't think I'll get to see The Human Stain while I'm here, it's only coming out on OCT 31

אם היא לא תזכה בשום דבר. איך אני מתה לראות את הסרט הזה, הוא נשמע כל כך יפה!!

יכול להיות. ממה ששמעתי על הסרטים שהולכים לצאת אני מהמרת בנתיים על קייט בלאנשט שהיא שחקנית מדהימה והייתה חייבת לזכות על "אליזבת". וואיי תחשבו על זה- אם קייט בלאנשט באמת הייתה זוכה על אליזבת ניקול לא הייתה השחקנית האוסטרלית הראשונה! ככה שמה שמוריד את הסיכויים של ניקול זה שהיא זכתה שנה שעברה והאקדמיה חייבת למות על השחקן כדי לתת לו שתי זגיות רצופות, או שאין כמעט תחרות בהוליווד כמו שהיה לפני עשרות שנים. מה שעומד מנגד ומעלה לה את הסיכויים זו העובדה שהיא משחקת ב-3 סרטים השנה ובכולם אומרים שהיא משחקת פשוט מדהים. עוד משהו שעומד לזכותה שקשור מאוד למה שכתבתי לפני שניה- יש המון אנשים באקדמיה שראו את דוגוויל ככה שגם אם באופן רשמי הוא לא יקבל מועמדות, הוא כן יקבל מועמדות דרך המועמדות של ניקול כי הרי היא תהיה חייבת להיות מועמדת על סרט אחד בלבד ככה שייתכן שיצביעו לה גםבתור הוקרה על המשחק שלה בדוגוויל. אז נקווה לטוב, מצדי שתהיה שנה לא מי יודע כמה מבחינת שאר השחקניות, שלא ימציאו לניקול שלנו רומן עם גבר נשוי כדי להוריד לה את הסיכויים ושלא ישגעו לנו את השכל ויכניסו אותנו למתח מטורף עם הורדת הסיכויים שלה (כמו שהיה שנה שעברה עם רנה ובסוף הסתבר שהיא הייתה רחוקה מאוד מאוד מאוד מניקול). האא ושכחתי שאת שחקנית המשנה תיקח ככל הנראה רנה זלווגר נכון לרגע זה, שהפסידה כבר פעמיים רצופות ולפי לירון משחקת טוב בקולד מאונטיין.

כל פעם כשאני חושבת שלא יכול להיות יותר טוב אני טועה. חחח לא נמאס לך להנות כ"כ בארה"ב?!?! אין משהו לא חוקי בלהנות כ"כ?!?!? חחח טוב נו כמו שאת רואה אני משתגעת פה מקנאה בארץ הקטנה, החמה והמשעממת (בעיקר ביומיים האחרונים כי כמעט כל הכיתה שלי בפולין ועדיין באנו לבי"ס לשרוף כמה שעות). ובאמת אני גם לא מתה על סרטי מלחמה אבל ממה שהבנתי רוב הסרט לא עוסק בזה אלא בגעגועים של הדמות של ג'וד לאו לניקול וההיפך וגם נעמה שיתפה אותנו בזה שהסוף לא ממש טוב... בקיצור לרנה יש משהו נורא מעצבן בפרצוף (ד"א ניקול קראה לה טוויטי! פייר היא כ"כ מזכירה את טוויטי שמזה צחקתי כשקראתי את זה!) אבל היא משחקת יחסית טוב. רק שבשיקאגו הייתה לה את הדמות היותר שטחית ומטומטמת (ולמה קלי שולטת!). אני מצטרפת לקריאה של נעמה- מה היה רע במשחק של נטלי פורטמן??? אני לא מעריצה שלה או משהו אבל ראיתי כמה סרטים איתה והיא באמת משחקת טוב! את יכולה להצביע על הבעיה? דמות לא שלמה מספיק? נטלי לא נכנסה מספיק לדמות? נראה לך שקיצצו קטעים שהיו עוזרים לדמות? ולגבי האוסקר- לפי כל השמועות ניקול הולכת להיות מועמדת על תפקיד ראשי ורנה על משני. לניקול באמת יש תפקיד גדול בסרט? ויש לה הופעה ממש מדהימה שנראה לך שתיתן לה אוסקר שני ברציפות (ואז זה יהיה הישג שלא הגיעה אליו שחקנית באיזה 20 או 30 שנים אחרונות לפחות אם אני לא טועה)?? וד"א סתם להכנה נפשית- את הולכת לראות שם גם את הכתם האנושי?
