I want to move end of this summer

How do I make it happen? I am 26 and want to serve in the military, I shouldn't have trouble getting in right? I'm gonna graduate from college this May, and it was my hope that I could move down there after graduating and depending on the military service to provide my needs and a little starting money to start my career. But then I realized I don't even speak Hebrew yet! So unless I can find financial assistance, I will have to probably save up enough to live in Israel and learn Hebrew before I join the IDF. Any tips to get the ball rolling? Thanks in advance for any assistance! -Max "Iron Man" Gibson

some facts../images/Emo150.gif

First, if you get to Israel after July 2006 and you will be over the age of 26 you will not be drafted to the army according to the latest army information. Note that the army is entitled to change its drafting policy at any time and also retroactive so that between the time that we chat here and the time of your arrival things can change. Even if you get drafted it takes a year until they do it because they give you time to adjust to living in Israel and time to learn the language. Also note that when you make aliyah you receive from the government an absorption basket that helps you during the first 7 months in rent and basic needs. More info on our web site: see below

can you read Hebrew?

Do you have a friend who can? if so, you can find a lot of information on the IDF web site at: http://www.aka.idf.il/giyus/general/?CatID=23080

stuff

Hi Max. I am 21 and am planning to make aliyah this summer as well. It is my understanding that at age 26 you are no longer required to do army service and I am not sure that they will take you even though you want to go. I have heard several different things about that recently. You should check out an organization called Nefesh B'nefesh, they offer all kinds of assistance to North American Olim including financial aid. The Israeli gov. also gives olim money, its nothing spectacular but its something. Feel free to write back with any question or just to talk, it would be great to make some more friends who are going to be there. All the best.
