Here I am… I thought, All alone at prom. I knew I shouldn’t have come… It’s not my place. I sighed and walked out the auditorium doors, throwing the rose in my pocket into a puddle. I whipped out a pack of Red Marlboro Lights and lit one up while sitting on the curb, thinking about why I showed up. I know that your Senior Prom is a once in a lifetime event, but why go if you know you won’t enjoy it? I was dateless and all my friends are dancing with their high school sweethearts. At least they can have fun for me. The one girl I loved, a close friend, my next door neighbor, was inside, having the time of her life with my best friend, Frankie. I haven’t told her how I felt about her so this is all mainly my fault and I can’t blame her or him about it. Neither of them knew. No one knew except for me and I pitied myself for never saying a word about it. I threw my cigarette in the same puddle as my rose and watched the flower slowly whither from the heat of the lit smoke. I took in a deep breath and buried my face into my hands and shut my eyes. Can I just leave now? Sighing, I rose from my hands and tucked my long, dark hair behind my ears. Just as I stood up, a girl walked up next to me. “Why aren’t you inside?” She said with the most beautiful smile. “No point really. I don’t have anyone to spend time with in there.” She gave me a sad look but didn’t say anything. “What about you? A gorgeous girl like you shouldn’t be left out in the cold.” This girl really was beautiful. She was wearing a strapless, black and red gown, with her dark hair in a curly up-do, and her eyes were a stunning shade of gray. “I’m just here out of curiosity. You only get this one time, so I guess I had better go.” I nodded my head and put my hands in my pocket. Why did she start talking to me? There really was no reason to. She turned her head to a path that lead behind the school and grabbed my arm. “What? Where are you taking me?” I said as she dragged me along with her. “You’ll see,” she replied. This was getting kind of weird. A girl that I didn’t even know was pulling me into an alley behind a school in New Jersey. Not the safest thing to do. Even though I didn’t know where she was taking me, I followed her anyway. Her aura made me addicted to her, not wanting to leave her side. Not long after, she stopped in front of a window that let us see and hear what was going on in the auditorium. “This is the last song of the night, ladies and gents. Grab a hold of your sweetheart and hold them like there is no one else around and enjoy your night…” “Will you do me the honor and give me a last dance?” Smiling, I took her in my arms and as soon as I did, I felt weird, like this was meant to happen, like she was here for a reason. Dancing with her made me drown out my whereabouts and I felt like I was in a dream. In my mind, I could hear myself singing… What's the worst that I could say Things are better if I stay So long and goodnight So long and goodnight Slowly, both of our lips pressed against each other into a deep kiss. Was this really happening? My crappy night was actually turning out to not be so bad after all. Without opening my eyes, I held her in my arms and slowly danced the night away. I was with a beautiful girl that made all my worries go away. How perfect is that? She made me forget about my pain, my sorrow, and I didn’t even know who she was. Wait. What was her name? “Hey,” I said, pulling away from her, “what’s your na-…” Where is she? I looked around. She was gone. “Gerard! What are you doing back here?” Frankie yelled, running towards me, “I was looking for you!” Still astonished, I replied, “I was with… this girl. She was wearing a red and black dress, had black, curly hair, have you seen her?” “Sorry, dude, no, I don’t know who you’re talking about. But we do need to go, my date’s waiting in my car and I wanna get home as soon as possible if you catch my drift,” he said with a mischievous grin. Frankie walked towards his car and I waited behind for a second and glanced at my surroundings. She was nowhere in sight. Was she even real? Confused, I turned around to leave when something caught my eye. The name Helena was etched into the brick wall of the school. Helena? “Gerard!” Frankie called. I lost my concentration, but scribbled the name onto my hand and walked towards my best friend. And if you carry on this way Things are better if I stay So long and goodnight So long and goodnight… My dream girl. הערת הכותבת: ***Yep. Short story. My first MCR fanfic. Gerard's "dream girl" was actually Helena (not meant to be Gerard's Grandma, or anything lol) but he doesn't know if she was really there or not. Hope you liked it. ^ ^****
