מהחלק האחרון של הסיבוב הנוכחי שלה (עם מייקל ג'ייסון קרול כפותח)
The last three years of Carrie Underwood's life have spun like a Tilt-A-Whirl, going from winning American Idol to joining the Grand Ole Opry. And Wednesday night, she brought that Carnival Ride to the Cajundome. The crowd itself, which nearly filled the Cajundome, was as varied as the faces you'd see at a carnival. There were young girls, looking up to Carrie and hoping their dreams would come true like hers have. There were young women Carrie's age, singing along with her in solidarity and complete understanding of her songs' messages. There were older couples, donning their cowboy hats and boots, out to enjoy an evening of good country tunes. It's rare to see those cowboy boots paired with patterned sundresses. That mixture of country and class seemed to resonate throughout the concert. Carrie can sing about digging her keys into "his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive," smashing headlights and slashing tires. And she'll do it wearing a couture label. In fact, the stage itself was set up almost like a runway extending into the audience for her to show off her black tank top with sequins, Rock & Republic jeans and knee-high boots; blue lace dress with detachable train; and denim and matte gold tunic. And like any good fashionista, the microphone matched each outfit. Carrie was humble as she walked down her version of a runway. In fact, she seemed almost surprised that all these people came out just to hear her sing. She joked with the audience about finding Prince Charming and stopped several times to touch hands with fans who lined the barricades on each side. Children, in particular, often caught her attention. She paused while singing Randy Travis' I Told You So to pose beside a young girl while her mother snapped a picture. The band accompanying Carrie on that song and others from Some Hearts and Carnival Ride during the rest of the 1 1/2-hour show also were impressive, particularly the fiddle player and bass player. She joined them on guitar for a number of songs. And while arena concerts, in my opinion, aren't always the best place to actually hear your favorite musicians, I thought the Carnival Ride crew did an excellent job balancing the booming, thumping music with Carrie's strong vocals. And strong is putting it mildly. The force and power behind her voice during I Know You Won't was more than enough to elicit extra applause from the audience during the middle of the song. Other vocal highlights were her current single, Last Name, which had the audience dancing in the aisles, All-American Girl and Jesus Take the Wheel. She ended the show with her version of Guns 'N' Roses' Paradise City and the crowd's favorite, Before He Cheats. The audience was thrilled to join Carrie on this Ride and was saddened but exhilarated when it ended. It was definitely worth going on just one more time.
