הפעם טובה, כדי שלא תערפו את ראשי...
Carrie Underwood has come a long way since her "American Idol" days. She said she tried out for the show on a whim, and it was the best whim she ever followed. She followed it all the way to Evansville on Wednesday night. The steady rain that fell on Robert’s Stadium wasn’t enough to deter spirits and dampen the mood. With umbrellas in hand, fans stood in line at the stadium for almost 45 minutes waiting for the doors to open so they could be the first inside the sold-out show. These dedicated fans carried their enthusiasm inside to create a high-energy atmosphere, culminating with an eruption as Josh Turner opened the night with his latest hit “Firecracker.” Turner sang to a packed house and a rowdy crowd that was on its feet. Unfortunately, due to a lack of showmanship, the energy temporarily died. He couldn’t expect to keep fans on their feet by standing fixed to the center of the stage barely moving to tap his foot to the beat. The audience was still looking for that moment to break out the excitement again. Turner gave that to them when he asked them to get on their feet during his performance of “Long Black Train.” Fans kept up the intense energy for the rest of the night. Josh Turner ended his set with “Would You Go With Me.” During the intermission, however, it was obvious who the fans were there to see. The country music superstar, who soon will be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, did not disappoint. When the lights dimmed, Underwood ascended to the stage from a trap door and was welcomed by a deafening roar from the crowd. She was all over the stage during her opening performance of “Flat on the Floor,” a song from her latest album “Carnival Ride.” Underwood kept the audience standing and screaming with several up-tempo performances including “The More Boys I Meet,” a song about finding Prince Charming. During the song, cameras scanned the crowd so girls could point out their prince charming to Carrie. What was really surprising was that even when Underwood slowed down the pace and sang multiple ballads in the middle of her set, the audience was still excited and full of energy. It was like her powerful voice commanded the audience’s attention. She dedicated her performance of her latest hit, “All-American Girl,” to all the little girls in the audience who were at their first concert. This song once again brought the crowd to its feet where it stayed for the remainder of the show. Carrie ended the night with three encore performances, including a cover of Guns N Roses' “Paradise City. She let the audience take over singing the final chorus of the song, and the crowd belted out every word. The song ended with a bang when confetti came pouring from the stage. People of all ages came to watch the concert. There were whole families that sang along to every word of her songs, high school kids on spring break and even the Carrie-crazed college boys with “I love you Carrie” t-shirts and cut-off jean shorts. It's obvious Carrie Underwood won "American Idol" for a reason: she knows how to perform.
