the parentheses

means that some hiragana will be added to the kanji in order to complete the word. example 下(がります)-sa(garimasu)-hang down, fall in verbs the hiragana will change the inflection(הטייה) example 下がりました-fell 下がりましょう-let's fall maybe this word is not a very good example but i hope you see the point​
