Underwood Will Have Performed 137 Live Shows By Year’s End ! NASHVILLE - (October 31, 2008) - Carrie Underwood’s “Carnival Ride Tour,” sponsored by vitaminwater®, has become a much-demanded concert ticket this year. Over 1,000,000 fans have come to see Underwood perform on the road so far in 2008. The current fall leg of shows included a sold-out show at the BOK Center in Tulsa in her home state of Oklahoma Wednesday night, a sold-out run of five shows in Canada earlier this month, and many other sell-outs across the U.S. By the end of 2008, Underwood will have performed 137 live concerts, in addition to her many other Opry and TV performances. Underwood, who recently celebrated her ninth #1 single, will take a quick break from the “Carnival Ride Tour” to host the 42nd Annual CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. She was recently nominated in two CMA categories, Female Vocalist of The Year, a title she currently holds for 2006 & 2007, and Album of The Year for CARNIVAL RIDE. She will depart Nashville the day after the CMA’s to resume the tour in Bakersfield, California.

CARRIE'S NATION: There are only a handful of artists who can release albums titled "Number Ones" or "1s" or some variation thereof, including Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, George Strait and Diana Ross & the Supremes. She's not quite ready to follow suit, but she's working on it: Carrie Underwood collects her seventh No. 1 as "Just a Dream" (19/Arista) advances 3-1 on Hot Country Songs. "Just a Dream" is the fourth single from Underwood's sophomore album, "Carnival Ride." All four singles, including "So Small," "All-American Girl" and "Last Name," have achieved pole position. That makes Underwood the first solo female artist to pull four No. 1s from one album since Shania Twain did it in 1995-1996 with a quartet of tracks from "The Woman In Me." It has been three years and five months since Underwood made her country chart debut with a cover of Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road." That's the second fastest accumulation of seven No. 1s for a solo female artist in the 64-year history of this tally. The only woman to earn seven No. 1s at a faster pace is Tammy Wynette, who took two years, 10 months and two weeks from the debut of "Apartment #9" in December 1966 to her seventh chart-topper, "The Ways to Love a Man," in October 1969. From the time her duet with David Houston on "My Elusive Dreams" topped the chart in September 1967, it took two years, one month and one week to get to her seventh No. 1. Using this criterion, Underwood would be in third place among solo female artists with Shania Twain scoring a narrow victory for the runner-up spot. It's so close between them, it's worth counting in days from first No. 1 to seventh. It took Twain two years, nine months, one week and three days, while Underwood took two years, nine months, two weeks and four days. When it comes to number of No. 1 hits this decade, there is no contest. Underwood was already the leader and simply extends her total with seven. There is a three-way tie for second place between Sara Evans, Faith Hill and Jo Dee Messina, who all have three. "Just a Dream" brings the total of No. 1s for the "American Idol" franchise to 209, counting all national, domestic charts compiled by Billboard.

Her performance roiled between the lusty, loud spitfire and the sultry sweetheart as Checotah native Carrie Underwood wailed out hits Wednesday night to a full house in downtown’s new BOK Center arena. As if a cheer- and tear-inducing, minutes-long video montage didn’t drive it home hard enough to this ecstatic hometown crowd: The 25-year-old’s ride to the top has been a really, really fast one. Underwood is making country music history, even as she hits the mid-way point in her Carnival Ride Tour. Her post-“American Idol” win debut, “Some Hearts,” became the fasted-selling country album of all time, according to Nielsen SoundScan. She followed in 2007 with “Carnival Ride,” an apt name for an album that’s taken this small-town ingénue into a realm of fame rarely experienced by any pop artist. The album’s already spawned four No. 1 hits. Elevating platforms and wardrobe changes — and a runway that projected into the audience — complimented an upbeat array of laser magic, confetti cannons and costume changes that included a princess-like gown, black lacy minidress and knee-high boots with gravity-defying stiletto heels. Her eight-piece supporting band was tight and bright and bold, but not at all necessary. With a few “power-chord” type backing harmonies on songs like “Last Name,” “Wasted” and “Flat on the Floor,” Underwood’s voice easily carried the show. Her vocal range and precision were immaculate. Her charisma was genuine; her banter heart-felt. Indeed, Underwood’s performance proved beyond any doubt that she has arrived, and she even took a quick moment to breathe “thank you” to a fan who passed her a bouquet of flowers between verses of “All-American Girl.” During the tune, the blond bombshell called a young girl from the audience — her cousin, dressed in a cornflower blue dress, pink boots and straw cowboy hat — to sing along with her as Underwood kneeled, looking her eye-to-eye: “… and his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect, all-American girl.” Family and friends celebrated Underwood’s first headlining show in Oklahoma and welcomed her home with a crowd that crossed all age boundaries. Her voice broke as she murmured the last line of “I Ain’t in Checotah Anymore.” She paused before lifting her hand into the spotlight and singing slowly, “Where 69 meets 40/ There’s a single stoplight in town.” She quickly regained her composure and joked lightly, “Then they got a second stop light and ruined the whole song.” Before the show, Tulsans Debi Cash, David Dahme, Susan Dahme and their mother, Bev Armstrong, gathered outside the venue, waiting for friends. At age 66, Armstrong was the biggest fan of the four, saying she read all the blogs on Underwood before she arrived and brought a pair of binoculars to see if she could catch Underwood’s new boyfriend (rumored to be Travis Stork from TV show “The Bachelor”) waiting backstage. Underwood dispelled those rumors, though, taking a gentle swipe at the press when she admitted that she is very much a single girl. “Ace is the only man in my life,” she said of her dog before launching into “The More Boys I Meet,” and her toddler nephew joined her on stage. Underwood carried him out onto the walkway, smiling, and said to him, “Help me find Mr. Right, because if he’s anywhere, he’s in Oklahoma!” The men in the audience roared a happy and deep cheer in response. “We’ve been Carrie fans since Day One,” Cash said excitedly before the show. “We all voted for her on 'American Idol.’ ” A fan nearby hoisted above the crowd a poster that read, “My sister was your kindergarten teacher!” Underwood waved at the audience. “I knew this was going to happen,” she said with a huge smile before she dedicated “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” to her fans and family. Opening act Little Big Town put on a strong performance, but it knew who the fans had come to see. The quartet belted out graceful and plush harmonies and arrangements in its trademark hot Southern rock and country hybrid style, wowing crowds with popular tunes like “Stay” and “Good Lord Willing and the Creek Don’t Rise.” The crowd sang along as bandmates walked out to the end of the jutting stage and drew in fans with a country living room intimacy, intricate harmonies and buoyant, balladeer-acoustic guitars. “Welcome to the carnival ride tonight,” chirped lead singer Karen Fairchild. “It’s a special homecoming tonight!”
