Katin Chozer

Hello, I'm what they call a "Katin Chozer"--I was born in Israel but have lived in the US since the age of 7 (I am now 26). Currently I'm in Israel doing a Jewish agency program. I am thinking about making Aliya while in Israel, but only if I can take advantage of some Ola Chadasha benefits, such as getting my Master's for free. If I'm not elligible for such programs, I plan to go back home and consider Aliya for a later date (maybe after my studies in the US). Does anyone know how the status of "Katin Chozer" limits my Aliya benefits, if I get any at all? Thanks in advance for your insights.

Benefits

Noaola-I am in a similar situation-moved here at 5, now 26 and hoping to move back to Israel this summer as a Katin Chozer. Almost all of the benefits are the same as an Oleh Chadash. You should be able to receive subsidized tuition.

If you are in Israel

right now, check your status via Misrad Haklita or one of the Jewish agency information centers http://www.jafi.org.il/aliyah/english/article.aspx?id=411 if you are back in the U.S. than i suggest you call an aliyah Shaliach. and also, here is a link to your rights in the ministry of immigration as a student: http://www.moia.gov.il/english/students/students2.htm Good Luck

Ktina Chozeret

Hello, I am a ktina chozeret, and I did aliya five years ago after finishing an exchange program in Israel. I was able to do my Masters for free. You are eligible for 3 year of free education. Also, you receive all of the benefits that an oleh chadash would get, with the exception of a three year time limit. I lived in Israel for four years, and used most of my rights. I moved back to the US last year, and now, I want to move back to Israel. Do you know how I can find other Americans/Canadians that are also half Israeli in Israel? I remember when I lived in Israel it was hard to find other people that shared the same cultural background, and were "trapped" in a sense between both worlds. I am married to an Israeli and we have a son together (I am 27), and so I feel it would be best for us to live in Israel. However, it would be nice to meet other people like me that I can befriend. Any help is appreciated. Good luck with your decision, Michal

hi

Michal, Would you email me? [email protected] We are the same age, I grew up here, and am returning to Israel late summer. I am also looking to connect with people in similar situations. Tamar
