Music scene in Israel

Hi Jeremy, There is a superb music scene here, literally from Metulla to Eilat: Bands and live music performances abound with festivals showcasing new talent throughout the country during most of the year - especially during Passover, Succot and the summer months. There is also an extremely active Anglo-Saxon (western immigrant) music scene as well, mainly focusing on folk, Jewish Soul, indie and country. Heck, we even got our own funky "Woodstock" with the annual "Jacob's Ladder" festival, now in it's 26th year. And speaking on a personal note as a former performer and songwriter, the money may not always be great - but trust me, making music here is a very good soul groove...

hmmm....

Hi, I'd like to constrain what Dave said. Yes, there are many talented musicians in Israel, just like in most other countries. The classical scene has produced some very fine, internationally successful musicians, and the young jazz scene is buzzing as well. However, most serious musicians position themselves towards a career in the US or Europe, rather than developing one here in IL. It is nearly impossible, for an unestablished musician, to get a paying gig in Israel today. I am speaking from personal experience. Hope this helps, T.
