proof of being jewish?
Hi, I read somewhere online that an acceptable 'proof of being jewish' is my parents ketubah + legal marrige certificate. I have these documents however the secretary of the shaliach told me to bring a letter from a Rabbi instead. When i asked why i cant use these other documents she said she did not know. I am not religeous and i dont know any Rabbis (what would they even ask me anyways to "prove" im jewish?!) any idea if my information about using the ketubah + marrige certificate is incorrect? Is the aliyah center required to accept this regardless of what they say to bring? also what would i need to tell a rabbi to get the appropriate letter? What questions would they ask? I'm not religeous at all I never had a bar mitzva or anything. please let me know i want to get this all straightened out before I go there because its far away from me and I dont want to make alot of trips there regards & thanks -nick
