re: well

Hello. It's great that people are acctually reading all this stuff. I don't have a problem living co-ed. I am planning on renting this apartment from friends of mine and it wont be open until october so if you come out in the fall its no problem. It would be great to talk before then anyway. I really want to meet people who are making aliayh around the same time too. Where are you in Texas? I am from Dallas but go to school in Austin. It would be great to talk more, you can e-mail me at [email protected] if you want. Bye for now.

re: questions

Hey, good luck to you! The program I'm doing is not like a birthright program or anything like that; I'll be mostly figuring things out on my own, and I won't be tied down to any group (of course, I'll be tied down to my internship
). But, with that in mind, you can either live in a heavily-subsidized absorption center ($30/month!) or get your own place. In terms of what you do, it's more of the umbrella-type, as you stated it. You don't get to choose exactly what you want unless you have a connection, but you do get to choose the type of internship you want and in what field. They also make the choice with consideration of how much Hebrew you know and the like. Just a few days ago, I received notification of where I'll be! My best judgment is telling me not to post the specific details in a public forum like this, but if you want to know more, feel free to post an e-mail or instant messenger name and we can chat! -Morris

Ra'anana center

Hey barak81, Did you mean you may be staying in the Ra'anana mercaz klita? If so, do you know anything about it or have you ever been there? Thanks!

Hello. My name is Anthony Youdim. I am 21, from Texas. I am planning on making aliyah this summer and I am trying to find someone who would be interesting in getting an apartment together as well as just looking to make friends before I go. I am sure making aliyah will have its difficulties and I think it would be good to have friends who are going through the same thing. I am really excited about making aliyah and look foward to a new life in Israel. All the best.

Questions

Hey guys, I'm actually 21 and strongly considering aliyah, and I noticed you're both 21 and 20, respectively. I was just wondering, how/why are you guys planning to go prior to finishing your college degrees? Or am I just being prejudicial and assuming you don't have it yet, when you actually do? But in any event, what are your plans? Do you know Hebrew? Personally, I'm going to be (if all goes well) doing the Stagerim internship program this summer for 2-3 months. Oh well, keep me posted I guess... -Morris

re: questions

HEy Morris. You're right about me, I am making aliyah before I finish school. I have been in school for the past few years and I really am not a fan of school. I want to finish but there are other things I want to do while I can. In Israel people don't start college until much later than we do so I will still be with the norm there when I start up again. I am planning on being there at the end of this summer and working until I go to the army. I speak pretty good Hebrew but I am not fluent yet so I will take another ulpan. What are you doing on the internship? All the best. Anthony

ahh...

Yeah, I know what you mean. The way I'm considering it is that I'd make aliyah very shortly after I graduate in May 2007 (I'd be 22 by then), then work/do an ulpan/do whatever for half a year to a year, enter the army for 2 years (even though it's only 6 months mandated for 22+) and finally, do graduate school (which would basically be free with immigrant benefits). The way it works out, if you consider from 18-21 a sabra would be in the military, most travel around for about a year after, then undergraduate college for 3 years = 25. I'd be 25 upon starting grad. school so it'd all balance out in the end... And this internship, it's this program you can do through the Jewish Agency for 2-6 months where they hook you up with a company to intern with in Israel. It's basically unpaid ($75/month stipend), but if you don't mind, you can potentially live in an absorption center for the super-low rate of $30/month if there's space. I'm supposed to hopefully hear about my appointment by this or next week! Anyway, the site for more info is: http://www.israelprograms.org/Stagerim.htm See ya later! -Morris
