Shanadoo are a 4-piece Japanese girl pop group produced in Germany. Their music is a mixture of J-pop and Europop/Eurodance sung in Japanese. They first came to public attention in the summer of 2006 with the release of their debut single King Kong. The 4 band members are Marina, Manami, Junko and Chika; all are from Japan and between 17 and 20 years old (some sources also say they are between 19 and 22 years old). Before the addition of Marina as lead singer, the 3 existing girls worked in Japan as a pop group under the name Vivace. Vivace were created exclusively for promotional purposes and released 3 separate songs on 3 different compilation albums in Japan, but had no success apart from this and did not release any singles or albums. To launch the group's career in Europe, Marina was added as lead singer and the group was renamed Shanadoo. Working with German music producer David Brandes, they rerecorded the song King Kong from the eurodance project E-Rotic from 2001. The song had previously also been covered with Japanese lyrics by the J-Pop group the HINOI Team.
