Shipping Container From States

I've been in Israel for almost 6 months now. I have two major questions. 1. When I ship all of my things from my house in USA to Israel, is the shipping ONLY tax free ? (I'm an oleh hadash) Or is the WHOLE container free ? 2. I have a large ammount of money in the states and would like to send that to my bank account in Israel, does Israel take a chunk of my money when I transfer it ? (Not converting $ to NIS)

Importing Personal Effects

Hello, I am Elad and I work in an International Moving company in Israel. For new immigrants, almost all of the personal effects and household goods are tax free. You even get discounted port fees. Some items, however, may be taxed if they are considered luxury. You can visit the Israeli Customs Website for more deatils at www.mof.gov.il/taxes and go the English link which is in the lower right corner of the home page. Note that even if you import a container, some port charges still apply like Shipping Line Charges and Cargo Terminal Charges. Regarding money, it's all inside the website. Shipping is very much not free or tax free.... sorry What is tax free as long as: 1) you have not been here more than 3 years 2) you have sent less than 3 shipments (3 is the maximum) is the customs duties and port taxes which are waived for new olim. If you ship a car as well (not recommended), you will receive a tax reduction equal to the tax reduction a new oleh gets on a new car (50% tax plus 17% VAT on both the value of the car and the 50% tax!) Well you got me all confused now... The above person IS Oleh Hadash! That means that Customs, as much as I know, will not impose duties on PERSONAL EFFECTS and HOUSEHOLD GOODS in a volume that suits a normal family. That's all he/she wanted to know. He also mentioned that he's in Israel for only 6 months. Regardless of that, he/she must know that there will be payments to the shipping line/forwarder (Delivery Order) and the bonded waerhouse at the port... something some movers find comfortable to hide in their quotations...
