should I make second pilot trip?

Hi. We know where we want to live. We were just there this summer. We want to make aliah next summer. Instead of a second pilot trip which will cost thousands (even with a subsidy), couldn't I do just as well just making aliah and renting a hotel room for a few days while finalizing a lease somewhere? I think that would be cheaper. Do the shippers require a permanent address, or do they just take it to the dock and you are own your own after that? Ezra

should I make another pilot trip?

Thanks. That's really a different discussion. I don't think a pilot trip will determine the answer to that. Am I wrong? really I'm asking about housing with this question. From a housing perspective, do I need to make another trip or should I just arrange it ahead of time?

Go to the place in which you want to live and talk to whoever is in charge of the area. All small towns and settlements have a person or a board of some kind. We are planning to move to Shilo and met with Orit Rappaport who pretty much runs the place though they do have a board of directors. She sent me to the homes (succas) of a number of different people who interviewed me. I guess the bottom line is 'if you are planning to live in a small community then you need to do a pilot trip. If you are planning to live in a big city like Yerushalayim or Tel Aviv then your plan will probably work fine. Stay in touch. I have 3 children already living there who may be of assistance. Our choices are Har Nof or Ramat Bet Shemesh. Either one would be fine. I figure they are both large enough we can find what we need when we get there. But I don't know. Some guy from nefeshB said they are predicting housing shortages this summer.

Thanks for the offer. Let's keep in touch. I don't know what we're doing yet. There are so many loose ends right now, it's like an explosion in a yarn factory.

They interviewed you? To see if you belonged with that community? I didn't know such things happened, but I'm not surprised. Not worried about being accepted or not. I can't help that or predict that. At least I didn't think so. But if there's an actaul interview process and they're straight with you I guess there would be. We're very anonymous people. We can blend. I don't mind. I'm looking for a place with 50% streimlech, like Bostoner or Pittsburgher.
