Thank you!

Hello and thank you for your time, both of you. I know we have some definite research to be doing. I would love the link to the website mentioned. Right now, unfortunately, it is not top priority, as we are unable to even LIVE in our house/town due to the devastation of Hurricane Wilma. We are luckily in Orlando with my husband's sister and her family, and we have no idea when power will return, or when we will be returning home to South Florida. I will be thinking about your suggestions, and hope to continue to "pick your brains" here on this site. Gotta run, kids are getting into stuff. Thanks again, and anyone else who has info or anything to share.......please do! L'hitraot, susie

Suggestions?? Trial year??

Hi there, I have enjoyed reading through a few pages of posts, and thought I'd add my own. My husband is Israeli, made aliyah with his family when he was young. He has not lived in Israel for over 8 years. I am an American Jew. We have 2 sons who were born in the U.S. (ages 2 and 4). Here's the situation.......we want to do a "trial" year in Israel next year. We have thought for years that we wanted to return and make aliyah (chozer for him), but it hasn't felt right till now. After spending a month there this past summer with friends and family, we have decided that we need to be there and now is the time. However, we are not sure that we want to sell everything and jump right in. A few questions: *are there any rights or support due to us for a "trial year?" if not rights, cuz I know, that's pushing it, but what about agencies that will help people who are not fully sure. *Our other thought is "why not aliyah now?" If we do take the full plunge, how long do we have before our benefits for shipping etc. expire? We would want to just store stuff in the US, rent our house out, etc. Is it worth it? *I am a Special Education preschool teacher with a Master's Degree. What do I need in order to be qualified to teach in Israel? I think that's it for now. I look forward to some responses, and appreciate anything anyone has to say. Oh, and Chag Sameach! We are bummed, we had to take our sukkah down early because of Hurricane Wilma. ugh. keep us in your thoughts....

Hi Soozie../images/Emo9.gif

From the things that you wrote It looks like you and your children can get an oleh rights and your husband might get acknowledged as a "Toshav Hozer". That means that you need a special consultation for the Whole family because you might get rights as a "mixed" family. You need to consult a Shaliach and see what is best for you. you can come as an A1 but some of your rights will still "run" (like customs), and your husband will need to clarify his status with "Bituach Leumi" and to check if he is still registered as a "toshav" in order to determine his eligibility to health insurance. So, as you can see, it is complicated and therefore it is advised to consult a Shaliach.
