Vaniqa is the first prescription product for the treatment of excessive facial hair in women. Vaniqa works by inhibiting an enzyme that stimulates hair growth. Every week 20 million American women can be found tweezing shaving, and waxing unwanted facial hair, which may be caused by hereditary factors, the normal aging process, or medical conditions such as hormonal imbalances. But a new cream, recently approved by the FDA offers them a new alternative. How Is Vaniqa Used? Massage a thin layer of VANIQA on the affected area of your face twice a day, until it´s absorbed into your skin. Apply after cleansing and before moisturizer. Remember, you should continue to use your current method of removal. VANIQA can fit into your daily beauty routine. Once VANIQA is absorbed, you can apply make-up or sunscreen, same as usual. Clinical Study Results The study included 596 women who used either Vaniqa cream or a placebo. The treatment was applied twice a day to the affected areas for 24 weeks, followed by an 8-week period of no treatment. At the end of 24 weeks, facial hair reduction was significantly greater in the women who used Vaniqa compared to those who used the placebo. Seventy percent of the women showed improvement, with 35% being classified as "clinical successes" (those who showed marked improvement or whose facial hair was completely or almost completely cleared), compared to 9% in the placebo group. Some women experienced improvement as early as 8 weeks after beginning treatment. Side Effects In clinical trials, some women experienced mild and temporary skin irritations such as redness, stinging, burning, tingling or rash. If these symptoms persist, consult your doctor. Only 2% of women discontinued their participation in studies due to side-effects related to VANIQA.
