it's like everywhere else in the

world... from time to time there is a bomb in a bus or something... but hey - in new-york it's much dangerous. in some places you can't even walk at night (in new-york), right?
if you will come here you will need to do 3 years in the army... & it's not that easy to find a job these days... besides that it's like everywhere else.

Thanks

I was planning on a short-term visit when I'm in college. No, I'm not Jewish I'm Christian I'm just trying to expand my knowledge of other religions and other cultures. I'm planning on living in Israel when I'm an adult for three-to four years (maybe more depending) then I want to move somewhere in India and then move to either Russia or Germany either way I want to go to both. I'm researching all of these countries in hopes of getting to understand them better than I do now. In Ohio (where I live) there is a huge Hispanic population and that's all you ever learn about in classes. I've never really wanted to learn Spanish or anything like that so I never really thought too much about going anywhere in South America or Central for that matter. I really want to go to places that no one over here knows about and then I'm going to come back and write a book on my travels. On the people and on the culture from a point of view that Americans can relate to. That's just one of the reasons I don't like the U.S. the other more prominent reason is the fact that alot of Americans are lazy and more than once in school I've taken a four or five person project and done it myself just to get a grade because no one else would help me. These aren't even the basis reasons for me finding a different nationality. The other ones are quite personal so I'd rather not share them but that is what I was planning to do. And no one's answered my question yet. What is a Shaliach?

A shaliach../images/Emo160.gif

Is a official representative of the Jewish agency for Israel. Its purpose is among others is to help anyone who is eligible under the law of return immigrate to Israel if they desire to. I suggest you read the law of return and you can than understand if it applies on you. Here is the link. http://www.jafi.org.il/aliyah/english/article.aspx?id=296

What is Aliyah?

This is my first time on this forum as a memeber and I was wondering what Aliyah is. I've seen alot about it on this webpage. I was also wondering if anyone on this site is living in Israel?

Correction you won't necessarily have to serve 3 years. It depends on many factors: the day of your arrival to Israel, your age, your health profile and your marital status on your draft day. When the time comes, your Shaliach will help you with all of that kind of information. If you are a woman, you do not have to serve once you've made Aliyah passed your 17th birthday.
