The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it. It began with the forging of the Rings of Power...but the power of the ring could not be undone. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? <Images of the riders winning the battle against the Uruk-hai at Helm’s Deep> How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? Sam: But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. <The women and children welcome the men as they return. Éowyn runs up to Aragorn and embraces him, crying tears of relief.> Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. <Isengard is flooded. Merry and Pippin looks on from their perch on Treebeard. On the balcony, Saruman stumbles back into his chamber> And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. They kept going because they were holding on to something. Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam? Sam: There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for. Sam: I wonder if we’ll ever be put into songs or tales. Frodo: What? Sam: I wonder if people will ever say, ‘let’s hear about Frodo and the Ring.’ And they’ll say ‘yes, that’s one of my favorite stories. Frodo was really courageous, wasn’t he, dad.’ ‘Yes, my boy, the most famousest of hobbits. And that’s saying alot.’ Frodo: Huh, you left out one of the chief characters – Samwise the Brave. I want to hear more about Sam. Frodo: Frodo wouldn’t have got far without Sam. Sam: Now Mr. Frodo, you shouldn’t make fun. I was being serious. Frodo: < So was I. > Sam: <Dreamily> Samwise the Brave. <He gives his backpack a heave and follows Frodo> והקרב בנקרת הלם. Sam: "Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo?" Sam: "It'll be spring soon and the orchards will be in blossom, and the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket." Sam: "And they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields. And eating the first of the strawberries with cream." Sam: "Do you remember the taste of strawberries?" Frodo: "No, Sam...I can't recall the taste of food...nor the sound of water...or the touch of grass..." Frodo: "I'm...I'm naked in the dark...there's nothing...nothing, no veil between me and the Wheel of Fire!!" Aragorn: "Sons of Gondor, of Rohan. My brothers." Aragorn: "I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me!" Aragorn: "A day may come, when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of Fellowship, but it is not this day!" Aragorn: "An hour of wolves and shattered shileds when the age of men comes crashing down!" Aragorn: "But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you, stand, men of the West!" Frodo VO: "Thirteen months to the day since Gandalf sent us on our long journey, we found ourselves looking upon a familiar sight." Frodo VO: "We were home." Frodo VO: "How do you pick up the threads of an old life?" Frodo VO: "How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back." Frodo VO: "There are some things that time can not mend. Some hurts that go too deep...that have taken hold." Sam: "Mr. Frodo? Sam: "What is it?" Frodo: "It's been four years of the day since Weathertop, Sam...It's never really healed." Sam: "'There and Back Again...A Hobbit's Tale by Bilbo Baggins'." Sam: "And 'The Lord of the Rings by Frodo Baggins'." Sam: "You finished it!" Frodo: "Not quite...There's room for a little more." Frodo VO: "Bilbo once told me his part in this tale would end...That each of us must come and go in the telling." Frodo VO: "Bilbo's story was now over." Frodo VO: "There would be no more journeys for him, save one Bilbo: "Tell me again, lad, where are we going?" Frodo: "To the harbour, Bilbo. The elves have accorded you a special honor, a place on the last ship to leave Middle-Earth." Bilbo: "Frodo, any chance of seeing that old ring of mine again? The one I gave you..." Frodo: "Sorry, uncle...I'm afraid I lost it." Bilbo: "Oh...pity..." Bilbo: "Should like to have hold it one last time." Bilbo: "Oh! Well here's a sight I have never seen before!" Galadriel: "The power of the Three Rings is ended. The time has come for the dominion of men." Elrond: "I Aear cגn ven na mar." [The Sea calls us home] Bilbo: "I think I'm quite ready for another adventure!" Gandalf: "Farewell, my brave hobbits." Gandalf: "My work is now finished." Gandalf: "Here at last, on the shores of the Sea...comes the end of our Fellowship." Gandalf: "I will not say, do not weep; for not all tears are evil." Gandalf: "It is time, Frodo." Sam: "What does he mean??" Frodo: "We set out to save the Shire, Sam...and it has been saved...but not for me." Sam: "You don't mean that!" Sam: "You can't leave!" Frodo: "The last pages are for you, Sam." Frodo VO: "My dear Sam...You can not always be torn in two...You will have to be one and whole for many years." Frodo VO: "You have so much to enjoy...And to be, and to do...Your part in this story will go on." sam: "Well...I'm back."
