Men and homebirth
It's driving me nuts. At least once a week some woman calls me to tell me that she really wants a homebirth and knows that this is the way she must birth, but her dear husband is against it. Sometimes they even use the words "he won't allow me" which really freaks me out. They ask me what can be done to convince them that it is a safe option, and would I meet with them to explain to them. The truth is that I don't feel it is my place to convince their husband about the safety of homebirth. They probably won't believe or trust me anyway since there is financial gain on my part involved here. So I tell them to read my book and especially the abstracts of the research that is in the back of the book. I tell them about all the websites etc. But I'm thinking if there was some way to create a men's support network, where these guys could meet and discuss it with other men who have gone through these decision making processes and had successful homebirths, this would be great. Would any of you guys out there or are any of your men homebirth fans that would be willing to talk or meet these doubting men or begin some kind of group, like La Leche does, with a monthly meeting? We could show the movie Homemade at the end. What are your thoughts on this??? For me I never dreamed of asking permission from my husband about where or how to birth, but I know that this is not so for many women. Many women don't have homebirths because of their partner's veto. How sad.
