Weekly Consciousness Tune-Up September 5th – September 11th, 2004 Knowledge & Patience If you want to stop blocking the Light from entering your life, there are two lacks you have to overcome. Lack of: Knowledge and Patience Knowledge. The more you know, the more information you have, the easier life is. If you understand the universal truths - cause and effect, the two forces within, the power of words and actions, restriction, transformative sharing - then life is easier. Knowing the rules of the game of life is empowerment. Are you studying Kabbalah every day? Even just for a few moments here and there, are you reading a book, listening to a tape or scanning and studying from The Zohar. My teacher and father Kabbalist Rav Berg constantly stresses this point: where there is a lack of knowledge there is an opening for negativity to come in. The tools of Kabbalah are readily available to you in many ways. There is Getting Zohar, our new monthly audio series conducted by Eitan Yardeni. Why not subscribe to it? If you don’t live near to a Kabbalah Centre, have you considered calling our distance learning department (Student Support)? What about our books? We have more than 20 titles in 10 different languages. You can find out all about these options by calling 1-800-KABBALAH. The point is, now that the tools of Kabbalah have been made public, the excuse ‘I didn’t know’ no longer works.
Patience. This one is a bit harder. Have you ever had someone tell you to “relax?” It’s annoying, isn’t it? But this is where there is the most Light for you. The teachings of Kabbalah place special emphasis on disciplining yourself to letting the Light in at all moments. Otherwise you are being reactive and controlled by the Opponent. This week you will have lots of pressure. Where is it coming from? It’s the Light reminding you to stop, even just for a second, to take the Opponent out and inject the Light. This week, whenever you don’t have patience, it means the Light is not in the picture. If you find yourself in this mindset, remember: impatience is stopping you from changing. The antidote is to stand there, be present, and appreciate. Impatience occurs when you are in pursuit of the things you want: new apartment, new job, new boyfriend. The reason why you are rushing into these things is you can’t stand looking at what you have now because you see only the negative and you desperately want to change it. The secret is - like attracts like. In focusing on the bad, you are actually attracting more bad! But when you count your blessings, you attract only more blessings. Appreciation is a skill, one that you need to constantly work on. Ideally you will develop this skill to the extent that you are able to see the good all the time. You shouldn’t need a blackout to appreciate light or terrorism to appreciate your neighbors. You shouldn’t have to lose the things you don’t appreciate. The energy of the universe this week is supporting you to AWAKEN APPRECIATION in your consciousness, to focus on the good – in yourself and in others. If you do your part of activating appreciation, then there is an opening for the universe to nurture you in every area of your life. I know it’s not easy to appreciate. That negative voice in your head is loud and always makes good points. It knows exactly where your insecurities are and it pushes on them like a child pushing all the buttons on an elevator console. But you need to take this message seriously if you want to change, if you want to get the things you are wishing for. The moment you appreciate the good and what’s okay with your life is the moment you can build up your level of patience. And then you can stop yourself from jumping into the wrong situations. This week, in addition to continuing to focus on the things you want to change about yourself, make a list of all the blessings you received this year! This will lead you to a deep appreciation of the Light. After all, whatever you are, whatever talents, skills, and good features you have is all from the Light. Some of you reading this might be thinking that you have no good features. This is the Opponent talking. If you have eyes to read this, if you are alive, you have so much. More than you realize. One final tip for the week. Seek situations you don’t have patience for and deal with things you want to avoid. Look for ways to bring out patience. And as part of your cleaning house for Rosh Hashanah, look back at the situations where you took and it wasn’t yours. Look at relationships you pursued because you didn’t want to wait. Look at the results of situations where you didn’t have patience, and undo them. Undo things where you lacked patience for the Light to come in. Look area by area. Go back and realize the chaos is there and undo it. Look at what you missed and think about how you could have done it differently, and undo it. Undo it? Yes, ask the Light to show you how you can undo what has already been done. Remember, the past, present and future are all here now. Right now. So yes, undo it. All the Best, Yehuda Berg
