How exactly is it better with judges?
If you have just 1 judge that's not enough (in my opinion) to send someone to decades in prison or possibly death row.
If you have more than 1 judge than a split decision is as likely as it is with a jury. Then what do you do?
Convict with a majority decision? Bad idea.
Require a unanimous decision? So what do you do when you don't get there? This is exactly the hung jury sceanrio.
Hung jury is not perfect but it's better than sending someone to decades in prison by a majority decision or finding someone not guilty (where they can no longer get retried) because you don't have a unanimous decision of judges or juries.
